Arrival - Review

This time around the focus is on a more recent film "Arrival" which had it's world premier at the Venice Film Festival on September 1, 2016. It is a 2016 American science fiction film directed by Denis Villeneuve and adapted by Eric Heisserer from the 1998 short story and novella, "Story of Your Life" by Ted Chiang. Arrival had a reported budget of $47 million and has since grossed $191.5 million worldwide.

The movie stars Amy Adams who recently starred in Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, Jeremy Renner and Forest Whitaker who stars as a U.S Army Colonel. It's no surprise that critics gave the movie such great reviews across the board with Rotten Tomatoes giving it an approval rating of 94% based on 302 reviews and an 8.1 rating from IMDb among many. Apart from being a critically acclaimed film, The American Film Institute selected it as one of it's ten Movies of the Year. Having watched the movie in the cinema myself, I was certainly not disappointed throughout the 120 minutes.

Just when it appeared to be getting confusing, the next scene cleared things up and the mystery surrounding the whole story line topped it off. Another thing to note is that the film received a total of 128 nominations including eight oscar nominations. Some nominations are still pending.

The film was released on DVD in the U.S on 14 February 2017.
