The Fast and The Furious - Review

Fast and Furious 8 might be the film trending at the moment but a piece of history might be good to see where it all began. On June 22, 2001 an American action crime film "The Fast and the Furious" directed by Rob Cohen was released.

The film starred Paul Walker, Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez among many. The movie was a box office success grossing over $207 million against a reported budget of $38 million. Critics were not so generous as the film received generally mixed reviews including a 53% rating on Rotten Tomatoes despite it's commercial success. Although there was some controversy in the film being similar to the 1991 film Point Break, Paul Walker and Vin Diesel became powerful names in Hollywood which opened more doors to them for more high profile acting roles.

The Fast and the Furious was nominated for numerous awards including an MTV Award for Best On-Screen Team going to Paul Walker and Vin Diesel. The Fast and the Furious was released on DVD on January 2, 2002. Talks about the sequel "2 Fast 2 Furious" which would be released exactly 2 years after the first one had already begun.

As a young boy that played racing games, it was no surprise that I became a fan of the movie up to today. It also happened that a rapper named Ja-Rule (real name Jeffrey Atkins), who I was a fan of at that time also starred in the movie.
